OEGlobal 19 Conference Recap and a Look Ahead

At the end of November 2019, our OE Global19 conference wrapped up in Milano. Here’s a short video I recorded there summarizing some of the highlights for me.

We are increasingly trying to curate and make outputs of this conference available to everyone after the event. So if you were unable to attend but want to benefit and learn from what took place there I encourage you to explore recordings from the conference. You’ll find recordings of keynotes, winners of Open Education Awards for Excellence giving lightning talks about their work, a summary of the ways the Open Education Consortium is evolving including its name change to Open Education Global (OE Global) and a closing panel session describing the historic adoption of the UNESCO OER Recommendation. Lots of great examples of fantastic work taking place in open education around the world and food for thought about its future direction.

As 2020 starts to unfold, we are busy:

  • Preparing to launch our new website incorporating our new name, brand, and enhanced benefits for members
  • Developing a strategy to build our membership and support for open education at the primary and secondary level (K-12)
  • Inviting entries for sessions to take place during Open Education Week 2-6-Mar-2020
  • Building a coalition to help countries implement the UNESCO OER Recommendation
  • Supporting participants in the Open Education Policy Forum
  • Creating plans for the activities of our regional nodes CCCOER and LATAM Regional Node, and
  • Planning future OE Global conferences including the call for proposals to host OE Global conferences in 2021 and 2022 as well as working with our OE Global20 hosts in Taiwan where this year’s conference will take place 20-22-Nov-2020.

I’ve started thinking this will be the decade for open education. On behalf of all of us at OE Global, we’re excited to be working with you all on making this happen.
