Course Materials Affordability Committee (CMAC)

The Course Materials Affordability Committee at Norco College is dedicated to making learning materials accessible and affordable for students. Its primary focus is to reduce or eliminate the cost of textbooks and other course materials by adopting Open Educational Resources (OER) and other affordable alternatives, such as low-cost print options or library resources. The committee recognizes that high textbook costs can hinder student success and aims to provide all students equitable access to essential learning tools. The committee plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with statewide affordability initiatives, such as Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) programs, and collaborates with other California Community Colleges system institutions to share best practices and resources. By focusing on affordability and academic quality, the Course Materials Affordability Committee helps foster a learning environment where students can thrive without the burden of expensive course materials.

ZTC Acceleration - Entrepreneurship

In 2023, Norco College was awarded the ZTC Acceleration Grant, funded by the state of California, to expand its Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) and Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives within its entrepreneurship program. As part of California's broader effort to alleviate the financial burden of education, this grant will help Norco College create and implement ZTC pathways designed explicitly for entrepreneurship courses. This initiative ensures that students can access high-quality, current learning materials at no cost, fostering both affordability and academic excellence in a dynamic field. Entrepreneurship programs must offer Zero Textbook Cost options because the field thrives on innovation, creativity, and adaptability. Aspiring entrepreneurs often face financial barriers when launching their ventures, and reducing the cost of education through ZTC ensures that more students, regardless of their economic background, can pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. Additionally, entrepreneurship evolves rapidly, and OER materials provide the flexibility to update and tailor course content in real time, ensuring that students learn the most current trends and practices without the financial burden of traditional, often outdated textbooks.
