OEGlobal at OER24

During March, the OEGlobal Team was in Cork, Ireland. First, they gathered for a rare, long-awaited in-person staff and board meeting, and then from 27 to 28 March, they supported, attended, and presented at OER2024 at Munster Technological University, Cork (Ireland).

Across the two days of Open Education presentations, workshops, and Gastas (a what?) at OER24, there were incredible, inspiring moments. The OEGlobal team and several Board Members were excited to attend and made quite a contribution.

On the first day …
πŸ‘‰ The opening keynote was inspiringly presented by OEGlobal Board Member Dr Rajiv Jhangiani, who shared his thoughts on the future of open education in “Betwixt Fairy Tales and Dystopian Futures: Writing the next chapter in Open Education” – watch it below.

πŸ‘‰ Team CCCOER, Heather Bilcher and Elizabeth Yata presented “Supporting EDI: A Spotlight on Open Education in Community Colleges”. πŸ‘‰ Access their slides.
πŸ‘‰ “Leveraging Open Education to Support Antiracism in the Classroom”, a presentation that showcased CCCOER’s groundbreaking OFAR program, was presented by James Glapa-Grossklag, Una Daly and Joy Shoemate.
πŸ‘‰ Β Igor Lesko, OEGlobal Board MemberΒ Paola Corti, Paul Stacey, and Antonio Martinez-Arboleda presented a session on the Network for Open Organisations titled “Collaborating for Impact: The role of the Network of Open Orgs in global Open Education efforts.”

πŸ‘‰ “Doing the Work: Developing a DEI Toolkit to Center Equity in Textbook Creation” was another session by Heather Blicher who co-presented with former colleague Veronica Vold.
πŸ‘‰ Marcela Morales and Mario Badilla Quesada presented on “The Importance of Finding Your Tribe and Building Community. A Latin American Experience through the OELATAM Regional Node“.

The last day …

πŸ‘‰ The keynote was co-presented by Dr Catherine Cronin and Professor Laura Czerniewicz (a former board member of OEGlobal) on the topic of The Future isn’t what it used to be: Ooen Education at a Crossroads”. Watch it here.

πŸ‘‰ The conference was brought to a rousing end by Alan Levine, who courageously took the very last slot to present his Gasta “Get Federated”! Watch it below!

It was a pleasure for the team to catch up with old friends, make new ones, and share our work with global open education colleagues. Catch up with the rest of the program here: www.oer2024.co.uk

We were incredibly grateful to Board Members Perrine de CoΓ«tlogon, Constance Blomgren, Poala Corti, Hsu-Tien (Marian) Wan, and Rajiv Jhangiani, who attended the board meeting in person, and to the rest of the OEGlobal Board who made time to connect remotely. Thank you!
