From September 1 to 5, 2025, the Board of Directors of Open Education Global (OEGlobal) convened in Paris, France, for a productive series of meetings and engagements.

The Board meeting focused on reviewing OEGlobal’s current activities and discussing future directions for the organization, The Board was pleased to welcome Natalie Mitchell from the Hewlett Foundation, who joined specific sections of the meeting. During these sessions, the Board shared updates on OEGlobal’s initiatives, while Natalie provided insights into the Hewlett Foundation’s Strategy, which includes a strong focus on Open Education.

The Board meeting took place adjacent to UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week (DLW) from 2–5 September 2025. DLW is an event highlighting the latest developments in education, including the transformative potential of emerging technologies and generative AI (GenAI). DLW provided an important opportunity for OEGlobal and its Board to contribute to global dialogue and ensure that Open Education remains central to discussions shaping the future of digital learning.

During their time in Paris, the Board also met with representatives from the French Ministries of National Education and Higher Education and Research to explore opportunities for collaboration on Open Educational Resources (OER), Open Practices, and Educational Digital Commons worldwide.

Representatives from the French Ministry of National Education shared insights about “La Forge des Communs Numériques Éducatifs”, an initiative supported by the Ministry that has recently received the Open Education Award for Excellence in Government Leadership. The OEAward was presented by the Open Education Global Board of Directors.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Research is currently developing a National Open Education Strategy in Higher Education, to which OEGlobal is contributing—an initiative expected to be as transformative as France’s Open Science Strategy.

OEGlobal took the opportunity of DLW to organize a reception with Open Education specialists and supporters from other organizations, along with French and Francophone experts (as shown in the image above). The reception was hosted by Delphine Verheyden, a lawyer and open education enthusiast, who joined us for the evening.
