Open Education Global and NorQuest College, hosts of the Open Education Global (OE Global) 2023 Conference, invite proposals for conference sessions. The conference will take place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (Amiskwaciwâskahikan), from 16-18 October 2023 under the theme Building a Sustainable World Through Open Education.
The call for proposals is now open, and the OEGlobal 2023 program committee welcomes proposals for sessions and participants from every educational sector, such as K-12 (primary/secondary), colleges, universities, galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAMs).
We welcome proposals that reflect on sustainability and inclusiveness and how Open Education can support the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO’s six Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) priorities along with other societal challenges. We encourage presentations that provide creative solutions for attaining the SDGs and presentations that focus on the relationship between Open Education, sustainability, and traditional Indigenous knowledge.
The program committee is looking forward to proposals from open educators, academics, facilitators, creators, technologists, administrators, and activists who are working in education and are invested in:
- Open Education, Sustainability, and other Societal Challenges
- Local Indigenous Cultures and Open Ways of Knowing
- Open Practices and Communities
- Research and Open Education
- Open Education Technology and Digital Competence
- Open Education Policies, Strategies, and Capacity Building
- Or another relevant topic not mentioned above …
Proposals can be configured in a variety of formats, including presentations, lightening talks, action labs, panel discussions, posters, or indeed, any other format you wish to suggest!

I love the idea of a “wild card” as an option for both topics and formats. Excited to see what alternatives are going to be suggested!
Hi All! Getting excited to fianlly join an in person conference again!
is there any estimate of registration fees so that I might budget my big trip from Australia ?
Hello,
Does anyone know if there will be options to bring someone in hybrid to present? We have a mix of full-time, part-time, industry partner, and students who are interested in presenting but limited PD budgets to full-time. I wondered about having one member of the presentation ZOOM in or alternatively, recording their part and playing. Thanks in advance!
Kim
Hi @JoFunk OH MY GOSH I am embarrassed to have missed your question. I am banging on the pipes now to find an answer. Feel free to message me directly if I do not get an answer right away.
It would be beyond fantastic to have you in Edmonton.
Hi Kim, Thanks for asking here. I am always putting the pressure on the conference planners to consider the remote participation options, and am going to start a new conversation here soon.
Frankly I think your idea of having a mix of in person and remote presenters is a much better approach than trying to create hybrids of solely online and solely face to face, and I urge you to plan for this style.
