The nomination window closed yesterday for the 2025 Open Education Awards for Excellence. Following the gardening metaphor, we collected 196 seeds of recognition planted for this year’s program. If you missed the deadline, do not worry, we can accommodate more nominations through our side door. Please contact us at awards@oeglobal.org if you wish to plant another seed for 2025.

In the process for the review stage, we have by the numbers nominations in the major categories:

  • 87 nominations for Individual Awards
  • 55 nominations for Open Asset Awards
  • 54 nominations for Open Practices Awards

From the nomination data, we see that this represents nominees from 42 countries. But that is not quite the whole picture– being global complicated! Numerous projects are efforts that represent participation or impact in multiple regions, and from the additional data field for other countries represented, we count 72 countries connected to the nominees. From A to Z these are:

Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Brazil, Burundi, Canada, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, France, Gaza, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Kiribati, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, México, Mozambique, Nauru, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Palestine, State of, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Romania, Samoa, São Tomé and Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Turkey, Türkiye, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Viet Nam, Yemen, Zimbabwe

Now this is global! What happens next?

After internal review the nominations will be distributed to the 30 members of the 2025 OE Awards Review Committee, all of them are previous awardees, as well as the OEGlobal Board of Directors. They play the key role of nurturing the seedlings and selecting the ones that will be announced in late September as the Shortlist of Finalists, for reference see the 2024 OEAwards Shortlist. Ultimately the second level of review will bring forward the 2025 Award Winners which will be announced as a live streamed event in October.

And keeping in mind our theme of recognizing all nominees, in mid August we will send email notifications to all listed nominees with our congratulations. This year, all nominees will be listed as we did in 2024, but also new this year, we will be distributing digital badges and certificates to every nominee.

Stay tuned to the growth of the planted seeds at the main OEAwards web site and of course you will hear from us in social media, everywhere hashtagged #OEAwards25. Also look for more continued sharing of past awardees and we have a number of OEGlobal Voices podcast episodes with last year’s winners in the queue to publish soon.

Thank you for all the enthusiasm and sharing reflected in this year’s OEAwards nominates. The garden is growing quite nicely.
