The annual Open Education Awards for Excellence, which nurture and celebrate groundbreaking contributions to the global Open Education community, have sown the seeds of recognition with their 2025 shortlist of finalists. Highlighting exemplary individuals, impactful Open Educational Resources, and innovative Open Practices, this year’s list cultivates the future of open knowledge worldwide.
In 2025, the Awards program continues to focus on both honoring and growing the open education movement. This year’s shortlist is anything but small—featuring 48 finalists across three flourishing categories: 16 visionary individuals (People in Open), 16 vital open assets (What We Share), and 16 inspiring open practices (How We Share).
The finalists emerged from a rich field of 193 nominations representing 42 countries, carefully tended by a committee of 31 past winners alongside OEGlobal Board Members. Their thorough review has helped these seeds of excellence take root and bloom.
