OER Under the Hood: Supporting Scenario-Based and Role Play Learning

June 25 @ 12:00 am 1:00 am UTC+0

The Pressbooks sports car is driving to Australia, where we will open the hood on two OERs that were designed to support hands-on learning activities that take place away from the screens.

Diagnosis: a Medical Education Game from the University of Newcastle provides the resources for a board game designed to help medical students build and practice diagnostic skills through a game of solving clinical case studies. This OER includes guidelines for the game, 10 full case examples, printable game materials such as patient charts and test diagnostics, even links to 3d models for printing game pieces.

A similar style of learning activity is supported by Deakin University’s Workplace Role Play Scenarios. The OER includes fifteen role play activities in areas of Difficult Conversations, Negotiation, and Mediation. Each includes the role play instructions and the situation with specific role play guidelines for principal characters.

See the first episode of the new Speaking of Open Podcast featuring Dr Sarah Steen describing the Workplace Role-Play Scenarios OER.

Attendees will have the chance to:

  • Experience these texts as they are visible to the world AND their creators
  • Get behind-the-scenes information on how they were designed and developed
  • Experience live demos

This session will be recorded, so if you cannot make the listed time don’t worry! The recording will be posted here.

And add your comments to the discussion for this Under the Hood episode in OEG Connect.

OER Under the Hood is a webinar series in partnership with Pressbooks where we go behind-the-scenes of various Pressbook titles, into the authoring tool itself, for a deeper look at why and how these OER were made.
