The new cycle for Open Education Global’s (OEGlobal) annual recognition program, the OE Awards for Excellence, is in motion. Since 2011, we have celebrated the achievements of 229 individuals, projects, and programs. In 2023, we received 173 nominations from 38 countries, and we would like to increase both numbers for 2024.
As a member of the open education community, start thinking about the people and projects should receive an award in 2024. Who has inspired you on your open education journey? Who continues to inspire you? What open education resource, platform, or [fill in blank] could you not do without? Which resource are you always recommending to your colleagues?
The call for nominations for the 2024 awards opens May 13, 2024. Complete information is available on the awards website: awards.oeglobal.org.
The OE Awards 2024 offers sixteen categories across the four main aspects of open education:
- People in Open (Individual Awards)
- What We Share (Open Assets)
- How We Share (Open Practices), and
- Special Awards (ones that change over time to be current).
If you already have a nomination in mind, you can review the award categories through our Category Explorer. This fun Explorer provides links to previous winners in each category to inspire your choices for 2024. Here are other ways to be inspired:
- Explore the entire archive of past award winners or be inspired by one selected at random,
- Watch the presentations of five OEAward23 winners at the OEGlobal 2023 conference,

We know that identifying a person or project that is worth awarding is not too difficult – it could be you! we welcome self-nomination. The act of nominating an award is very … rewarding!
