Open Education Week returns this March as OEWeek26 — and this year, we’re gathering in the town square of open education.
What do we mean by “town square”? A place where people meet, exchange ideas, share resources, and build community. For OEWeek26, we invite educators, learners, librarians, creators, community organizers, and policy advocates worldwide to host activities in their communities and list them on our global OEWeek event calendar. 24 OEWeek events have already been listed on the OEWeek26 calendar. What are you sharing?
We’ve made several improvements to OEWeek’s global calendar this year, including making it easier for you to upload your event information and for OEWeekers to find and attend events.
Why list your event?
- Make your work discoverable: People around the world use the OEWeek calendar to find workshops, panels, study groups, and showcases.
- Celebrate and connect: Share what you’re doing and meet collaborators and learners. Discuss how you have made an impact through open education with fellow open educators, find solutions to shared challenges, and collaborate on solutions.
- Reach international audiences: OEWeek event listings are visible to educators across time zones and regions — online, in-person, or hybrid. Even if people cannot attend your in-person event, it is a way of letting the global community know what you are doing in open education!
- It’s fast and free: Add your event at oeweek.oeglobal.org — listing your event only takes a few minutes. Get started with the OEWeek how-to guide.
What kinds of events can be listed?
- Workshops, panels, webinars, drop-in sessions, student showcases, community meetups, policy discussions, translation sprints — all formats are welcome.
- Events scheduled in February, March, or April 2026 will be featured, with a strong focus on OEWeek activities between March 2 and 6.
- If you want to try something different this year, but don’t know what to plan, take a look at our OEWeek Event Ideas Handbook for inspiration from previous OEWeek events and activities! Drawing from OEWeek24 examples, you could plan an Open Education Week Pep Rally, as Thompson Rivers University, or an Open Textbook Interview Series hosted by the University of Edinburgh, or a collaborative creation event, like Colaboratón Alquimétricos Kit Cero.
Get involved beyond listing
- Host an event – we’ve prepared all the fun OEWeek visuals, so you don’t have to.
- Attend other events organized by your fellow Open Educators
- Help amplify events on social media using #OEWeek26 and #TownSquareOfOpenEd – use our Communications Kit
We’ll be hosting a spotlight on events, organizers, and stories from March 2–6 with intensive visibility—and we want to feature your work. Add your event now at oeweek.oeglobal.org and join the town square of open education.
