Proposals to host the 2027 and 2028 Open Education Global Conference are now open — deadline: August 31, 2026.
Thank you for your curiosity about hosting the Open Education Global Conference. Planning a global conference is a long and intensive process; thus, applications to host are accepted well in advance.
The Open Education Global Conference (#OEGlobal) is the largest gathering dedicated to open education worldwide. Each year, hundreds of researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and educators from numerous countries worldwide come together to explore ideas, share practices, and shape the future of open education. Hosting this conference is an opportunity to put your institution’s dedication to Open Education at the center of the global Open Education movement.
Why Should Your Organization Host?
Since 2008, more than 3,385 registered participants have attended OEGlobal. At previous events, up to 76 countries have been represented. The conference has been welcomed by some of the world’s leading institutions, including MIT, Cambridge University, Taipei Medical University, Delft University of Technology, Politecnico di Milano, the University of Cape Town, APTIKOM Indonesia, Vietnam OCW, Nantes Université, and the University of Southern Queensland.
In 2026, the conference will be hosted by MIT Open Learning and the Massachusetts Open & Low-Cost Educational Resources Advisory Council (OLERAC), running Oct. 7–9 at MIT’s Samberg Conference Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts — and online.
Now, the OEGlobal Conference Committee is looking ahead to 2027 and 2028.
Hosting brings your institution into a distinguished tradition and gives you the opportunity to raise the profile of Open Education locally, regionally, and globally. It’s also a chance to build strategic local and regional partnerships — proposals may include collaboration with national conventions, educational organizations, and tourism bureaus.
Who Can Apply?
Only OEGlobal Institutional members are eligible to host OEGlobal conferences. If your institution isn’t yet a member, this is a great time to explore membership and what it offers.
The conference typically runs over three days, between September and December.
